Don't get me started ...

Most of the military budget is transfer payments to individuals, a welfare program in drag.

The military is as corrupt as Wall Street. The 'revolving door', 'triple- dipping' and self- reinforcing conflicts of interest hamstring missions while amplifying costs.

The military budget is a lot larger than published figures as 'black' operations and 'homeland security' are left out.

The US cannot defeat light infantry with no heavy weapons or air power. It has tried and failed at this cumulatively for 28 years: Iraq, Afghanistan, Vietnam.

The Navy cannot defeat pirates in tiny skiffs with no heavy weapons (neither can the Chinese).

The military accepts peak oil while refusing to alter its fuel- guzzling doctrine.

The military is spread too thin where bases cannot support or reinforce each other, easily. This is a disaster waiting to happen.

ETC ETC ETC ETC ETC ...

I basically agree with steve.
No country can pursue a policy of Imperialism
and profess democratic ideals, this is why the
US concentrate on technology to make up for the
lack of motivation in the armed forces.
In Imperial Rome death was glorified, cant
do that anymore,thanks for that.

Typical scary propaganda from the military industrial complex to protect/increase their budgets
