My younger colleagues know that everyone looted the country to live high on the hog during their lives by taking from the future. I think they are also resigned to it as the levers of power are never going to be accessible to them. Most all of us think that we are "doing 75 MPH in a heavy fog" economically and are hoping that the day of reckoning does not come soon.

Being a hard core Materialist,I always took it for granted
that the brain, a product of nature, was subject to its laws
& like Mother nature can be chaotic and violent,but its primary
objective is survival. When times are rough and lean ,everybody
is a good socialist and welcomes any help they can get (even the
super rich ) in times of abundance, each and every one will grab
all he/she can and becomes an avid Capitalist.
Humans respond to the here and now,very few have a long term view
or the brains of a Bertrand Russell
