Not only will this financial crash seem like a picnic the coming GOLD surge and OIL hike along with the US dollar collapse and possible break up of the US we also have to worry about... WHY DOES BANGLADESH have more money than the USA??

Global warming is rubbish, fear-mongering for the purpose of profit (so many careers are dependent on this quackery, not unlike the financial fiasco we are wading through). We are closer to an ice age than a warming episode; this warming trend was just a blip in geologic time. We should be more concerned about how we are going to grow food sufficient for the world's populace; and this is not just an energy question.

I've often thought these concerns would take a natural direction after "TSHTF". "Green thought" advocates a more regional scope for food & goods distribution (ideally the foods we eat come from within a 150-mile radius). There are similar requirements for electricity generation (it must be used within 150-miles of areas produced due to line loss).

Big business inherently has differing views. Big farms/processing centers that transport foods nationwide vs. smaller neighborhood farms.

Big electric generation plants vs. house-top wind and solar devices. Our electric cooporative is debating whether to increase electric bills due to increased capital expenditures needed to put up addition powerlines to the areas of generation vs. more local house-top solar & wind grids - reducing needs for powerline infrastructure improvement.

In these troubled times, there is NOTHING quite like the personal power felt when generating your own power, growing your own food, and pumping your own clean water. It is a state I would suggest to all.

Drewski, what are you on? GW is WIDELY accepted by scientists and widely agreed as to have human causation. Read "Six Degrees" and a few other books by those who have been working first hand on this problem, then come back and let us know if you still think it is a fraud. Yes, GW has happened in the past, but NEVER in the short time spans we are facing. Just because you deny a problem, does not mean it does not exist. And answer me this, Cui Bono? Who stands to profit from this? Your comment defies logic.

And Black Star, what do you think will happen to your 5 acres, clean water, and food and power generation equipment after the collapse? or maybe much sooner? A fence and some weapons will be nothing against the hoards that will likely be combing the countryside looking just for such things, and caring nothing about the consequences of gaining those things.

Unfortunately these comments show the lack of deep, critical thinking about the problems we are facing. Denial and nihilism will not solve the problems facing us.
